‘Youths are angry, offended for law Minister’s statement’

Law Minister Advocate Anisul Hoque said, “according to the International Crime Tribunal Act it’s impossible now running the trial against Jamaat-e-Islami criminal during the liberation war.” Young people are furious for this statement.

Distinguished peoples that have made movement demanding punishment for the war criminals said, the ongoing trial against Jamaat may be hampered for the statement of law Minister. Judges will be put on the pressure. He gave this kind of statement no knowing enough about the law. They demanded to investigate that why he said that. They said, no further delay, Jamaat should be judged immediately as an organization.

In fact, as the preparation of the case against Jamaat has been investigated for seven months. Over the past two months, they were preparing for formal charges. According to investigators, they are prepared to charge at any time. Continue reading

Correction campaign is going to be started in BNP. Through this correction campaign, new faces will come into various committees, including the central and metropolitan committees as well as so many people will lose their positions. These operation’s main criteria will be the introduction of anti-government movement before the election of 5 January.

Bangladesh Nationalist Party or BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia has done a meeting at Monday night to rebuild the Dhaka Metropolitan Committee. At that meeting, Khaleda Zia has made clear everybody’s key role in anti-government movement. Besides, she also told clearly that Dhaka city BNP could not build the perfect anti-government movement before 5 January election. Municipalities’ leaders have also acknowledged that. Especially it was the duty of Dhaka metropolitan unit to cover the ‘March for Democracy’ program successfully. But they could not make it. Member secretary Abdus Salam had to account for this because metropolitan unit convener Sadek Hossain Khoka was in prison. Though he accepted his failure, he tried to establish a reason for the failure. But Khaleda Zia did not grant for hiding in fear of arrest. The 18 parties, including BNP had previously announced the elimination of election. After the announcement of the election schedule in November, they took their position in the field. However, the government was also prepared to prevent them. But still, loss of life could not be decreased.

Last year, from the very next day after the announcement of election schedule on 5 November, the opposition party BNP led 26-day blockade program at six phases. This time 123 people lost their lives across the country. And Sunday, in the Election Day at least 18 people were killed in different places for various violent incidents. Will there be again any election with all party’s participation after the election of 5th January? Or will the government want to fulfill its term? Will the violence be increased or will the situation be under control? BNP is thinking about the post-election situation because of non-working blockade.

One day it is remaining before the election without the participation of opposition parties. It has understood by BNP that the blockade is of no use to resist the election. So now they are calling a strike at different districts to resist the election. Meanwhile, on January 5, in five districts general strike has been called. It is also known that in which district’s election will be held; BNP will call a general strike in those districts by Saturday.

Before the election, some polling stations were set ablaze. Fire and petrol bombs were launched at the bus-truck in Dhaka and outside Dhaka. In Dinajpur, two people were killed by the petrol bomb launched in the truck. Continue reading
