Correction Campaign in BNP; Threat and Expectation

Correction campaign is going to be started in BNP. Through this correction campaign, new faces will come into various committees, including the central and metropolitan committees as well as so many people will lose their positions. These operation’s main criteria will be the introduction of the anti-government movement before the election of 5 January.

Bangladesh Nationalist Party or BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia has done a meeting at Monday night to rebuild the Dhaka Metropolitan Committee. At that meeting, Khaleda Zia has made clear everybody’s key role in the anti-government movement. Besides, she also told clearly that Dhaka city BNP could not build the perfect anti-government movement before 5 January election. Municipalities’ leaders have also acknowledged that. Especially it was the duty of Dhaka metropolitan unit to cover the ‘March for Democracy’ program successfully. But they could not make it. Member secretary Abdus Salam had to account for this because metropolitan unit convener Sadek Hossain Khoka was in prison. Though he accepted his failure, he tried to establish a reason for the failure. But Khaleda Zia did not grant for hiding in fear of arrest. Khaleda Zia had also questioned some leader’s loyalty to the team on that meeting.

BNP chairperson's adviser Shamsuzzaman Dudu said that in coming May; the party's central council session will be negotiated. Before that, from center to district standing committees there will be strong scrutiny. In past movements, one had played retiree role and one did nothing. So some will be promoted, and some will not be while some might face punishment. He also said that the new committees would be formed with a goal to succeed in future movement. So those who would not be with the movement, they would not be given the responsibility.

However, Khaleda Zia thinks that the movement was quite strong in outside Dhaka. But in the main place Dhaka no effective movement was built on. District and grassroots leaders had also stood on this. Because of this, tour programs of central leaders have been suspended due to the district-level leaders. Their opinion is, 'District is OK, but the center is not OK.’ So Khaleda Zia began to talk with Dhaka Metropolitan City. A process of sharing two metropolitan committees is going on to work more effectively.

Meanwhile, many central leaders’ role is also now questioned. Those who just gave statement did not take part in field programs, hidden in fear of arrest are facing questions. Some leaders have been charged for keeping communication on both sides. Shamsuzzaman Dudu said that standing committee will negotiate regarding all matters where there will be no secret. General leaders will give their free opinions in different level talks. As a result, everyone will just get the result of his deed. BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia will now only give importance to the self-denying. There will be no pocket committee.
