The Daily Kaler Kontho is considered as a second most popular daily newspaper in Bangladesh, after The Daily Prothom Alo. It published from Dhaka in the Bengali language, the first official language of the nation. The Daily Kaler Kontho has a circulation of nearly 3 hundred thousand copies that makes it the second highest circulated newspaper in Bangladesh, as well as the second most circulated newspaper published in the Bengali Language.

Kaler Kantho is a concern of the East-West Media Group Limited of Bashundhara Group. Popular Bengali budget newspaper Daily Bangladesh Pratidin and English daily the Daily Sun, and the online news portal banglanews24.com are sister concerns of The Daily Kaler Kantho. It was founded by popular Bangladeshi journalist Abed Khan. First edition of this newspaper was published on 10 January 2010, where Abed Khan was its chief editor. He resigned from Kaler Kontho in June 2011. Famous novelist Imdadul Haq Milan is now its present editor.

Regular sections of Prothom Alo includes News, Shompadokiyo (Editorial), Muktodhara (Columns by famous columnists), Album, Tech Protidin (ICT News), Shilpo Banijjo (Business Related News), Khela (Sports News), Poralekha (Educational Tips), Deshey Deshey (World News), Rong Berong (Entertainment News and Gossips), and Priyo Desh (Regional News).
