Deutsche Welle

Deutsche Welle (DW) or German Radio is Germany's international broadcasting service aimed at the foreign market. With DW-TV, DW-RADIO and DW-WORLD. DE, it produces news, background information and cultural highlights worldwide, while creating a platform for intercultural dialogue. It broadcasts news and information on shortwave, Internet and satellite radio in 30 languages. One of them is Deutsche Welle Bangla which broadcast in Bengali Language.

Deutsche Welle’s Bengali service first broadcasted in 1st January 1975 short wave. It stopped broadcasting in the Short wave, which was the main medium of reaching listeners. On April 14 2010, FM transmissions were started in Bangladesh, broadcasting programs from 8:00 am and 8:30 am as well as 8:00 pm and 8:30 pm BST for very limited and certain areas. As a result, listeners in West Bengal of India and other places totally lost the chance to hear this service. This service was stopped in March 10, 2013. Numerous famous personalities worked for Deutsche Welle’s Bengali service, such as poets Asad Chowdhury, Ahmed Rafiq, Nazmun Nesa, Farhad Khan, Ashfaqur Rahman Khan and Abdullah Al Farooq. Kabir Suman (Than Suman Chattapadhay) worked as a radio journalist in the Deutsche Welle’s Bengali service from 1975 to 1979.

Deutsche Welle produces a new science and technology show in Bengali, which started telecasting on April 13 on Ekushey TV. It telecasts on every Saturday at 6:30 pm as well as Sunday at 1:30 am and 3:30 pm. Onneshon covers science, technology, the environment and medicine, with a special focus on the latest developments in Germany and Europe.

Deutsche Welle’s Bengali website publishes news mainly focused on Bangladesh as well as News and analysis of the top international and European topics, Current affairs and background information on politics, business, economy, science, technology (News, Tips, and Products), environment, woman rights, human rights, sports, education, lifestyle, fashion, culture, entertainment and many more.
