Left-wing sides are hiking tariffs on slam Gas

Today's left-leaning political parties came strongly down on the government to hike the retail consumers ' gas price with impact from tomorrow.

"The gas price was raised to bring the burden of corruption and looting on the general individuals by the government," Left Democratic Alliance (LDA) said in a press declaration that LDA also called on the government to cancel the gas price hike decision.

From July 1, the power regulator decided to raise the cost of gas by 32.8% for all customers. The single burner's cost will increase from Tk 750 to Tk 925 per month, while the double burner's cost will rise from Tk 800 to Tk 975.

The left-leaning political party called on all progressive, patriotic political parties, social and cultural organizations, and experts to forge a collective motion against the decision as an anti-people choice.

Meanwhile, in a distinct declaration, Khaliquzzaman, Bangladesh General Secretary Samajtantrik Dal (BSD), called the government's decision to lower the "illogical and illegal" gas price.

He also condemned the state asking it to abrogate the anti-people ruling instantly for this decision.

The veteran communist chief said in the declaration, "The individuals will not take responsibility for the government's misplaced policy, corruption, and looting."

He said the tariff cannot be hiked under any conditions if any state-run organization is lucrative.

"We observe that the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission supports the looting spree and that the government's misguided strategy distances itself from the concern of the people and their legal position," he said.

He said the individuals would not accept the choice of the government to hike the gas tariff.
