The Daily Jugantor is a popular newspaper in Bangladesh. It is published from Dhaka in the Bengali Language. It is owned by the Jamuna Group of companies which has businesses in real estate, banking, and other sectors. Salma Islam, the Editor, is the wife of Nurul Islam Babul, Chairman of Jamuna Group. She is also a Member of Parliament for the Jatiya Party (Ershad). The newspaper’s editorial line tends to favor Awami League and it is anti BNP because its chairman Nurul Islam Babul was held to jail several times during BNP Government.
Famous journalist Golam Sarwar is the founder editor of the Daily Jugantor that came into publication in 1999. He resigned in September 2004, because of the daily was forced to publish news favoring its owners. That harmed the daily badly. After that famous journalist became the daily Jugantor’s editor. Abed Khan then acted as editor of the daily Jugantor from 2005 to 2006. During his tenure, Jugantor reestablished its lost image. Not only that, the charismatic editor brought the daily as the second highest circulated newspaper in Bangladesh. Though, he left the daily Jugantor in 2006. Than its founder-editor, Golam Sarwar again joined the daily in 2006.
The regular feature pages of the Daily Jugantor are first and last page mainly containing the National News, Dosh Diganta (World News), Shilpa Banijjo (Commerce and Trade-related news), Anondo Nagar (Entertainment news and gossip), Ekdin Pratidin, Tutorial, Shompadokiyo (Editorial Colum), Upo Shompadokiyo (Sub Editorial Colum), Chithi Potro (Readers Opinion), Batayon, Khela (Sports News) and Banglar Mukh (Regional News). It also contains weekly feature pages such as Shuronjona (Women Platform), Shahitto Shamoyiki (Literary Magazine), Islam O Jibon (Islamic Lifestyle), Khelar meal (Weekly Sports News), Bichchu (Fun Tabloid), Shustho Thkun (Health Advice and Tips), Alor Nachon, Orthonity (Weekly Economic News and Analysis), Drishtipat, Tara Jhilmil (Kids Magazine), Protimoncho, Shojon Shomabesh, Prokriti O Jibon (Environment and Lifestyle) and Ghore Baire (Tourism).
